Have you found the Wiki VDPAU page?

It does have some setup info for AMD/ATI cards.  I also found this on
a quick Google:

AMD cards these days can apparently use either VAAPI or VDPAU, but I
have not really followed the discussions of it as I only have Nvidia
and Intel GPUs.
