Do you get anything from running that command manually.  I just tried the
following:

/usr/share/mythtv/metadata/Movie/tmdb3.py -l en -a NZ -M "12 years a slave"

(just had to put the film title in quotes due to spaces)

......and I get data back.

May give you a better error if something else is going wrong.

You can also add "--debug" to the command to get a ton of output showing
what is going on.
