In the U.S., a "beamer" (or "beemer") is a nickname for a BMW car.
"Projector" is used for all devices which are basically a light in a box
for throwing (projecting) an image on a remote screen, regardless of the
media in the box (celluloid/film, photo slides, DLP, LCD, etc.).
