I never intended to imply it would "work".  There are good
studies that show that pushing the boundaries (by both
children and adults) is part of a healthy growth and learning
process (the learning of consequences happens when one
falls off a cliff and gets a broken bone, or burn ones fingers, or
get grounded for 3 weeks, or get suspended for 6 months
without pay).  And while the specifics of helicopter or free-range
parenting may vary, one has to look at it as a journey, and
not specific points along the way.
