[mythtv-users] HD-PVR faster channel change

I have written a channel change script for my STB's that appears to be very
reliable, though not as fast as I would like (about 4 seconds for the
channel change script... 7 seconds total to change channels).

I have noticed that Mythtv has no problem with my changing channels while
it is actively recording... likely because my STB is set to always output
720p (may change it to 1080i later).

Anyway, I was wondering if I could speed things up by having mythv start
recording before the channel change script starts (or at the same time).

Has anyone done this successfully?  I am thinking that I could write my
channel change script so that it spawns a new shell and immediately
exits... should I expect any problem with this?
