One potential way around this is to use the proper abbreviations of the
units in question, since these don't have a plural. So whereas you can
say and write "minutes", "hours", "metres", etc. the respective unit
notations become just "min", "h" and "m", so without an s being
appended. Many people err against this rule, but it's a rule nonetheless.

Also, since the topic of translations came up, let me say that I believe
that the above is supposed to apply in all languages as per the SI standard.

(One reason why this rule is a good idea is that it avoids confusion.
For example: ms means millisecond, not the plural of metre).

Finally of course: units do not need to be translated.
