For android (Samsung tablet), I tried both the mythtv player and mythtv 
frontend applications, but neither worked for me.  I then tried the 
recently release kodi 15.0 with the mythtv PVR add on and it works 
great.  Plays my mpeg2 recordings with no transcoding necessary, which 
might be important if using a raspberry pi 2 as the server.
