I use MythWelcome for a while now and do have encountered this
behaviour as well sometimes. But for me this occurred rarely and it's
been a long time since the last time which made me think this was fixed.

But for my system it is unlikely a buffered/queued key press - at least
for now - because I always press and hold the ENTER key on my remote
until the flat button on the MythWelcome screen gets enabled which
confirms to me that it received my key press. I don't know why, but for
the first key press after some while my system is kind of ignorant and I
have to repeat the key press. This affects e. g. Pause as well when
playing records...

If my system would buffer/queue key presses at MythWelcome,
MythFrontend would always start again after being closed. But I would
not exclude the possibility that this happened on my system in the past,
because I can remember of having created the same theory (maybe on
ubuntu 12.04? I am not sure).
What are your ubuntu versions?
