I think I've diagnosed my issue with this tuner: it seems MythTV was 
compiled on my system without dvb support. This is likely the explanation 
for why I cannot select this tuner under mythtv-setup. I can't fully test 
that theory since I've now lost the ability to recompile MythTV. But 
that's because of an OS/distro issue and is not owing to anything related 
to MythTV. So it's not a problem relevant to the concerns of this list and 
I won't be going into it further here.
