I think I see some correlation here.

FWIW, I cannot generally tell the difference between my HDPVR1
recordings and my HD HomeRun Prime.  I would need to try to turn on
closed captioning in order to distinguish the two.

Of course, on those rare occasions where I've recorded an hour of the
Verizon logo bouncing around and telling me to press the menu button
to turn on my STB the difference is quite stark.
