Even better would be to completely remove the "default value for Zoom" (and every other cross-linked setting-to-specify-a-default-value-for-another-setting) from the buried-where-no-one-can-find-them-so-people-just-edit-the-database-and-eventually-put-garbage-in-place-so-MythTV-has-to-deal-with-garbage-values-without-crashing settings pages and modify the during-playback menu to allow you to choose a value for one-time use and/or specify "set default" on it.

Most of my recordings are 16:9 but inset in 4:3 so I need full. But
some like Startrek are 4:3 so they need off. I have set it to
Automatic (Default Off) And mostly it switches to full within a
second. Only 3:4 recordings sometimes switch mid showing to full when
the top and bottom are mostly black. Maybe a suggestion to let
automatic only switch in say the first minute of a recording. But then
in LiveTV a mid showing switch might be needed.

Tot mails,
