What command do you use to poweroff as you call it?
In essence you can go to three stages: suspend to ram, suspend to disk
and full off. The first is normally the S3 stage where still some
power is used. The other two go to S5 which is full off and it depends
on your motherboard, your bios settings and sometimes jumpers on the
board wether some power is kept to ps/s, usb and/or lan to receive a
wake-up call.
The first two can also be combined. An image is saved to disk (
normally your swap) but the machine is kept in S3 for fast wakeup. The
image is only used in case of power loss.
With your lan and keyboard you normally see a led still burning if
there still is wakeup power.
