With the HDHomeRun Prime you plug the tuning adapter directly into the
HDHomeRun via the USB port on the back - everything gets handled without
involvement from the PC/MythTV machine.

Another fun trick if you feel like poking around - you can do manual
recordings using wget:
wget http://<device ip>:5004/auto/v2?duration=300
(5 minute recording of channel 2)
