Thank you.  The linked IRC log was especially helpful.  It sounds like
the plan is to post a 0.27 update (perhaps even releasing it as
0.27.4) that keeps the existing updater and points it to the new DNS
name.  In 0.28 there may be an overhaul, but they apparently don't
plan to use the SD JSON fetcher in its present state.

For Gentoo at least I'll just post 0.27.4 when it is ready, or the
fixes patch if they elect to not tag a new release.  I imagine most
distros would do the same.
