    Just as an aside, I doubt ionice will make any difference in this
    instance, not that it will do any harm. All the work will be done by
    the database daemon, which will be running under its own I/O
    priorities.

Thanks for the info. One related question. Can the cutlist be cleared 
prior to rebuilding the seek table, or should the rebuild be first?
