I hope my reply isn't too late to help, but...

When you said you "schedule[d] a manual recording", do you mean you went 
through Manage Recordings|Schedule Recordings|Manual Schedule in 
mythfrontend?  If so, it should have worked.  The only reason you should 
ever get a "does not match any showings" message is if you used the 
guide to schedule a recording (i.e. went to the appropriate time in the 
guide and selected the "No Data" block at the time you wanted to start 
the recording and set up a rule for that).
