That's interesting.

My experiments with this RNG110 show that I can acquire video using
other software (ie. test-mpeg2), and that this includes the premium
channels.  I'm not sure how to interpret the significance of this, but
it does make me wonder if getting this box to work via firewire would be
worth the effort.  I became quite excited when I saw premium content
using test-mpeg2, as my previous experience with firewire and an STB was
different.

I'd another STB connected to my previous MythTV box - which died very
recently - where I could receive via firewire the nonpremium channels
but not the premium channels.  I guess this is the norm that you're
describing.

I've things working now - given that my previous MythTV box is
completely dead - using an HDPVR.  But I'd prefer the simplicity of
firewire if at all possible, even for premium channels.  Then I could
hand over the HDPVR to the kids for their videoing of gaming.
