Turned out, it's definitely not a myth issue, and the patch I applied
is just limited work-around that is only effective with nvidia cards
(and native drivers)

turned out to be a libavformat mpeg demuxer bug:

you can reproduce it in mplayer by starting it with:
mplayer1 -vc ffmpeg12vdpau -vo vdpau -demuxer lavf

people didn't see it with mplayer, because it doesn't use libavformat
demuxer but uses its own
