I WANT to use mythtv to watch tv and recorded tv.  It does this very well.
I like to use xbmc for everything else.
Why?
It is prettier.  Kinda lame but I like the fancy graphics and the click
sound when moving through menu items.
It plays ANY video I throw at it.  Now I might be out of date because I
switched to xbmc to watch movies a few years ago.  I got tired of trying to
figure out why myth would not play some videos.
With xbmc.  I have never had a time when the video would not play.
Streaming video from the web.  Hulu integration is supreme with xbmc.
Sports devil works well.  And all the other plugins I have tried work.
Playing music.  I personally got confused with the tree layout of myth
music list.  I know that many discussions were had on how the music should
be laid out using myth.  With xbmc, one can easily  sort the music anyway
they want.
Installation was a breeze.  Everything was automatically found.  Sound
settings for hdmi stereo and tv just worked right out the box

I am not a mythtv hater.  It is by far the best for watching and recording
tv shows.  That is what it was designed to do and it does it well.
But for everything else, I prefer xbmc for its ease of use and simple
configuration.

Right now my menu is setup with a button to launch xbmc from the main
menu.  This gives me the best of both worlds.

Myth backend is supreme.  Nothing can compete with it.  Nothing.
