Ah, this has changed with newer kernels!
(http://www.mythtv.org/wiki?title=Hauppauge_HD-PVR#Over-saturation_and_Color_Solution):
A driver updated was applied to the 3.3 Linux kernel that automatically
compensates for the way the firmware handles hue and saturation in
different driver versions.
So I will try removing those MythTV event handlers.

Unfortunately I don't think my Dish ViP222k has firewire.

I recently figured out how to control it via UPNP, but not reliably (may
be related to sling and the STB's UPS, so I am trying it on just a surge
protector).

FYI: I tried using the "KEY_POWER" tests and it killed the lirc_zilog
module (now it timeouts even after rmmod/modprobe).
