If a rotating part heats up and expands, causing it to rub against 
another stationary or rotating part that it is not supposed to, we call 
that an "interference issue"

No. Just cooling it will allow it to continue to function. Freezing it 
is simply a bad idea. You're going from one extreme to the opposite 
extreme, and the hard drive is not designed to operate in either.
