and why would that be.

ZFS on linux, from what I've experimented and put in production works
extremely well. Just as well, if not sometimes better than the same
plateform on FreeBSD

BTW, Solaris has no recommendation for a minimum amount of memory,
regardless of the storage. They list 1GB as their minimum RAM.

Only FreeBSD gave such recommendations, and FreeNAS folks made that
even more restrictive.
