To start please bottom post!

I don't know the effects of your command, but pm-utils and the
hibernate scripts are highly configurable. For instance unmounting net
shares on suspend and remounting on wakeup, backing up your video
memory (without which nvidia crashes on one of my older systems)
bringing down and up again network interfaces, stopping and restarting
a mythbackend etc etc etc.
