I've also been running my backend OS/database/theme-cache on a Intel
80GB G1 for a couple of years.  It was repurposed out of my main desktop
when I purchased a larger SSD to use there.  I haven't had any issues, and
it greatly improved the responsiveness of the frontend which runs on that
machine.
