I have mythbuntu running with a rtl8169 nic and had all kinds of issues 
with the driver. What I did was go over to realteks site and downloaded 
their driver and installed it. Works great. No problems at all. I did 
notice that instead of my 8169 being recognized it recongnized it as a 
8168 instead and blacklisted the 8169. Might just do that and save your 
self a step or two...
