@PJR - I followed the EDID process that you described, but it had no
effect. However, i left it in my xorg.conf since I saw no harm in leaving
it there.
@Gregorio - Thank you for the in-depth information related to my model TV.
I purchased the TV back in September 2006, so I do have the older firmware
that does not offer overscan control.
@David - The nvidia ViewPortOut worked like a charm!! The only deviation
is that the +28+17 represented the upper left corner of the screen for me.
So instead of halving the numbers, I used xwininfo to approximate the TV
screen dimensions and position. Then I fine tuned the position and size
until I had the perfect layout.

PS - I tried to use the underscan feature that was in the nvidia-settings,
but the program refused to save the config file, even if I pointed it to a
blank file in /tmp
