I managed to buy a motherboard recently that I couldn't get to wake from S3
using USB; I couldn't find an option in the BIOS to enable it either. There
was a wake from keyboard and mouse option which worked, but nothing else.

In the end, I bought one of these:

and mounted the sensor internally next to the main IR receiver sensor.

This isn't as neat and was a fiddle to mount, but as a bonus it allows you
to power on from cold too.
