There is power through the mini pci express connection that was enough
for one connection. I think you would need the LP4 if you were using
all 3 firewire ports.
In the end, I went with the HDHomeRun Prime. It hooks right into the
cable out of the wall and ties into your local network. That means no
cable box and associated cable box rental fees. My cable company
(Comcast) was charging $10/month for the HD cable box. The HDHomerun
Prime pays itself off reasonably quickly, and it has three tuners, so
recordings rarely conflict. It also saves the trouble of modifying that
NUC case for the firewire card.
