It's the master backend and the database. No recording files or
tuners. It's really nice for upgrading since I can just duplicate the
VM and change the IP address on the host and in the database and
voil?, I have a duplicate myth system to test against.

In my experience, scheduling, recording, file serving and jobqueue are
4 totally separate things that happen to be jammed into a single
process called mythbackend. (Although from messages I've read, some of
these have been split out in the latest version). Depending on what
you configure, mythbackend is happy running any combination of those
functions.

Obviously, if you are running file serving or jobqueue you need access
to those files somehow. So if you are not recording on the same box,
you need to setup NFS or something, (I actually copy the files around
and poke the hostname in the database directly, but I'm a maniac).
This is where the OFFICIALLY supported part comes in, 'cause if you're
doing this sort of stuff you're on your own.
