I have gdm setup to autolog the mythtv user if there is no activity and
that user has nothin'. .xsession looks like this:
xset -dpms s off
/usr/bin/unclutter -idle 2 -root &
nvidia-settings --load-config-only
killall irexec
irexec --daemon
mythfrontend

In other words, pretty spartan. But it is also nice to logon to the TV
since, especially on this old 0.25 myth since not much works except the
PVR. Mythweb crashes often enough it isn't worth trying to use, few of
the streaming options work, weather just blows me to gdm and has for
months, etc. So a desktop session is useful.

I use Fedora + XFCE on my laptop, haven't experimented much with what
Debian offers for DE options on 7 yet. Probably wouldn't be a terrible
idea to throw up a VM and research first. Can I even keep using gdm?
Has it been defeatured so much it won't honor .xsession anymore. Bleh.
