You are assuming that once he knew what to look for (ie for something he 
had to install separately and not something that came with MythTV's 
source) he wouldn't have been able to figure out which packages to install.

OK, he did credit somebody else for that line (but he is not alone... 
(-; ) but I am pretty sure he would have figured out the others...

There seems to be more and more people that compile from source (which I 
am sure you would not find a bad thing if you had to have them try a 
patch) but the directions they are following do not tell them what to do 
when they get a message like that. It might be a good idea to change the 
message we give them when there are missing dependencies to make it more 
user-friendly and tell them that's stuff they need to install 
*separately*, that it doesn't come with MythTV's source.
