Sounds like you need to work with your distro packager to build
correct distro specific files (MythTV configurations are often "generic",
which means it may work on all, some, or no specific distro, and
while there are packaging scripts for some distros, the same applies).
And when the distro changes system application versions, it is
not entirely surprising that the distro packagers have not tested
all the changes for all possible packages. Your distro packager
should have a bug tracking system. I would recommend opening
a bug there to get the defaults changed (until they see a ticket,
I'll bet they simply did not know that changes were needed). In
some cases, those changes may get reflected into the packaging
scripts, and in other cases, those changes are local to the
packager.
