[mythtv-users] Can mythtv (or mplayer/xine through mythtv) upmix 5.1 sound in 6.1 or 7.1?

Right, but this just cannot be done perfectly. Information is lost in
the matrix.
The question is whether a new mid-low end 5.1/7.2/whatever native
receiver will sound better than this older Denon unit with software
mixing. Quite possibly.
Sometimes you just need to accept obsolescence.
A university colleague once told me:
I paid $7,000 for that machine over there. I'm now using it to prop
open my door because it's too slow for me to use even to check my
email.
