I use OpenVPN to log in to my MythTV box from my laptop when I am away
from home.  There is not enough bandwidth to play anything over the
connection, but I can monitor the recordings and use the frontend
happily.  With enough bandwidth, I see no reason why it would not play
recordings and videos also.  I have OpenVPN set up to just make my
laptop appear as another PC on my home network, so it can do anything
any frontend can.
