Sounds like Youtube.com cannot enable Stage Video because it's an ad
selling channel.

Anyway, I am wondering what are the options here to get a decent Youtube
playback experience. Apparently Flash is not the only option - iOS
devices can use their Quicktime player, Android probably makes use of
HTML5. There are even Youtube downloaders that can grab the chosen video
in a number of different video formats.
Can't MythTV fetch the right video stream directly (it's some sort of
MPEG4, after all) and just replay it using its internal rather advanced
video player?

What is the

ythflash://localIP/some/weird/path/some_youtube_downloader.py?video=XXXX
URL that got passed to Firefox when I configured the web browser as
"firefox %URL%"? Is it documented anywhere? What is the purpose of
mythflash scheme? Can the downloader.py download the file, store it
somewhere and then pass its temporary filename to the video player?

It's indeed unpleasant to be unable to use the features of MythTV just
because of the slow/unaccelerated flash. It's so handy to watch Youtube
videos on the bigscreen next to the recordings and other videos. If
MythTV got it implemented then let's just debug and fix it.

Thanks,

Petr
