For those of you who archive the past messages, this is a response to messages dating from 11/08/13.
I'm back from a weekend out of town, thus the delay in response.

I just ran "alsamixer". Below is my summary of the response.

On the screen right now is a series of 16 bar graphs.
At the top center, it's labeled AlsaMixer v1.0.26 (maybe 28 - it's a fuzzy photo that I took; I'm in a different room.)
Upper left corner says the following:
   Card: HDA Intel PCH
   Chip: Intel PantherPoint HDMI
   View: F3:[Playback] F4: Capture F5: All
   Item: Master [dB gain: -20.00]
At the upper right are four lines re F1, F2, F6 & Exc. keys

The bar graphs show this data, going left to right:
Master: 41 (bar is roughly 41-ish percent up from the bottom)
Headphone: 100<>100 (bar is at 100%)
PCM: 100<>100 (bar is at 100%)
Front: 100<>100 (bar is at 100%)
Front Mi: 0<>0 (bar is at 0%)
Front Mi: 0<>0 (bar is at 0%)
Surround: 100<>100 (bar is at 100%)
Center: 100 (bar is at 100%)
LFE: 0<>0 (bar is at 100%)
Line: 0<>0 (bar is at 0%)
S/PDIF: (blank) (bar is NON Existant)
S/PDIF D: (blank) (bar is NON Existant)
S/PD 1: (blank) (bar is NON Existant)
S/PD 2: (blank) (bar is NON Existant)
Rear Mic: 0<>0 (bar is at 0%)
Rear Mic: 0<>0 (bar is at 0%)

---
The F2 key gave six options, all starting with "/proc/asound/..." that I suspect many of you are familiar with.

The F6 response gave these options:
   - (default)
   0 HDA Intel PCH
   1 Conextant CS23885
       enter device name...
---

Doe any of the above tell any of you why my audio does not work?
