YMMV but, when I tried to control two STB's with the same control set using separate emitters, I was unable to prevent the commands from one emitter 'leaking' over to the other receiver.  I tried a lot of things to isolate one receiver from the other but, short of putting them in different rooms, the best I was able to achieve was about 95% isolation.

Using different command sets for different devices is really the only 100% reliable method that I could get to work.

Did you try a luminum f oil?  I have had good results using that to block IR signals.
