Overscan has already been taken care of in the Xorg.conf file with the 
following addition to the script.

Option      "metamodes" "DFP-0: 1280x720 { ViewPortIn=1280x720, 
ViewPortOut=1216x686+35+15 }"

For some reason Mythtv overrides and resets to whatever parameters you 
enter into Myth. These persist even after you shut down Myth.

I tried checking the 'Separate Video Modes for GUI and TV Playback" (as 
I think you were suggesting) and it did nothing to mitigate the issues I 
was having with VDPAU.  Disabling compositing is the only thing I've 
found that allows me to get VDPAU to work on my system.

It would appear that nobody here knows the answer to my original 
question about plasma-widget-toggle-compositing. I guess I'll just have 
to install it and see what happens.
