I know that the permissions must be correct because this new drive replaces a drive that failed and I copied all the data from the old drive to the new drive so all my old shows (that were on the failing disk) are now on the new disk and they are playable.

The permissions on the mount point are 777 also. I didn't want to take any chances that a process couldn't do whatever it wanted to that drive! :) One thing I just noticed that is different about the 2 mount points is that the one that works has a . at the end of the permissions and the one that isn't being written to does not. I saw something online about the . meaning alternant access control, but I'm not sure what that means. I'm running Fedora 17 if that's any help.
