[mythtv-users] Recording a program that has already begun (i.e. partial recordings)

Hi guys,

First let me apologize, while the topic of partial recordings seems to have
been touched upon a few times however I suspect I haven't gone as much into
depth as I should to get my head around this.

I'm using the python bindings of Mythtv 0.23 to program mythtv to record
elements in the EPG (using the Record.fromGuide() function). All works well
except under the instance where the program to be recorded has already
begun showing. This is irrespective of whether the program will be aired
again or not, therefore unique programs also don't get scheduled to be
recorded by the python script if they have already begun airing.

I've even tried to do a reschedule after running the script thinking that
maybe that would trigger recording to begin but to no avail.

I suspect this falls in the realm of partial recordings. My limited reading
suggests mythtv doesn't like partial recordings.

I can go into the mythfrontend and start recording for this program and the
recording commences however I would rather not have to do this manually and
would like it automated using scripts and my logic.

I would appreciate if someone could help me with the following :

- Am I correct in my assumption that this is mythtv refusing to record a
partial recording?

- Does mythtv (0.23) have some sort of logic in built that tells it that if
the show has just started airing or if it would still get most of the
recording, then recording should go on? If someone could point me to the
logic mythtv decides when it is safe to go ahead recording and when it
should skip recording I would sincerely appreciate it.

- Is there a way using the python bindings to force such a recording to
take place?

Thank you once again everyone for taking the time to go through this post
and any help.

Regards,
jeetu
