Hello Everyone,

I have been asking this question on Linux Questions and I have received
some advice from one kind soul but nothing seems to be working. I was
thinking that people here might be more accustomed to dealing with this
type of issue. Below is a cut and paste of my original post on Linux
questions. If you follow the thread we've tried the follow:

1) adding "Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600"
"640x480" to xorg.cong"
2) removed and blacklisted the nouveau drivers
3) update grub
4) update the initramfs
5) on my own I changed settings in the xorg.conf to HorizSync 15.73 - 67.5
VertRefresh 23.98 - 60.00 based on information I got from my
manual.
6) I also tried to create a new mode in xrandr that I got from
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Modeline_Database but no joy.

As always thank you for any help you can provide.

Chris

_ORIGINAL QUESTION:_
I've just loaded Ubuntu 12.04 on a new(used) HTPC which I have hooked up
to a Panasonic TV (this is to be used as a MythTV frontend). The TV's
max resolution is 1024x768 but the option isn't available in X-server or
the Ubuntu display controls. It is currently set at 1280x720 and
subsequently the controls are not completely visible on screen
(overscan) making it very difficult to work with.

The output graphic controller is :NVIDIA Corporation C77 [GeForce 8200]
(rev a2) (I don't know if you need any more information).

I tried the below (sorry I forgot how to get it into the little
scrollable box) taken from the following website
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...ar#post8595940
<http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8595940&mode=linear#post8595940>)
but as you can see I came to a dead end.

Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
