First, please stop top posting. Either post on the bottom, or post in
line with a specific statement.

Second, you're going to have to explain your situation a bit more. If
you're trying to capture output from a DVD player, you really shouldn't
be doing that at all. Rip the content from the DVD, and don't bother
with the loss of a digital->analog->digital conversion. If for whatever
reason that's not an option, you still don't want to be using MythTV.
MythTV is designed to record and watch scheduled television programming.
It can be used to force manual recordings as you intend, but the UI is
not designed for it, and it is very clumsy. With a PVR-150, you can
capture MPEG2 video directly to a file from the command line. Just 'cat'
the device node to a file, and 'ctrl+c' when you want to stop recording.

If you're trying to capture the output from a set top box (the "sky
channel"), you're still going about it all wrong. As explained, MythTV
is designed to record scheduled television. That means MythTV needs to
be able to change channels on the Sky box, and your tuner card is just
always left to a single channel (or ideally, connected using s-video, or
at least composite). You will need to configure an IR blaster or some
other form of control in a channel change script to allow MythTV to
change channels on that Sky box. Your channels defined in MythTV are
then what your Sky box has access to, not the single channel your Sky
box outputs on. As explained, your Sky box will ALWAYS output a video
signal, regardless of whether it is tuned to anything, so there is no
way for MythTV to scan for channels on it. They need to be manually
inserted, or depending on your location, imported from your guide data
provider.
