It is core code, and I find from some quick research that there's been
a great lull in development over there that apparently just missed a 
fork this hour; the core developer was tracked down and turns out he's 
wrapping up a 2.0 release for Very Soon Now.  More details likely
to follow in the next.. day or 3?
