Well, it's not actually a MythTV problem, is it?  I mean, if you can
cat /dev/videoX > test.mpg and end up with a 4:3 video file, that
means the problem has to be at a lower layer.  Maybe posting about
this problem on the video4linux mailing list would be more
appropriate?

Alternatively, if you have a Windows machine, you could test the HDPVR
under Windows and see if it also sees the same problem.  If it does,
then you're probably best raising this issue with Hauppaugue support.
