Problem solved! A million thank-yous  HP Mini !
Use the Myth FE setup/audio settings screen:
- rescan
- pick a logical candidate
- tick sensible digital capabilities
- test

Concise and easy to follow directions!
Big time kudos to Mr. Frye too for his patience and encouragement along the
way!
