The first, and most important thing, you should do when upgrading MythTV
is create a backup of your database as a "just in case". Do so as
described at:
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Database_Backup_and_Restore
Then, just get the new version of MythTV installed (I'll let you/others
figure out how to do that with Mythbuntu repositories), and (ideally)
start up mythtv-setup to upgrade the database. (The master backend will
also upgrade the database for you, but using mythtv-setup, you'll get
popups and notifications that you'll actually see, and it allows you to
check to see if you need to change any backend configuration before
startup--though you're unlikely to have much, if any, changes to backend
configuration between 0.25 and 0.26.)
Note, too, that when you start up mythfrontend for the first time after
the upgrade, each plugin will check its database schema version and will
perform database upgrades for itself (so even after the backend upgrades
the database, you will still see database upgrades when you start
mythfrontend).
And, most importantly, there's nothing specific you need to do to
upgrade the database or "migrate" the data or recordings. Just have
your full database in place and let MythTV take care of it for you.
(And please do not follow the instructions on the "easy steps" page that
Google tells you to read if you search for "migrating mythtv
<whatever>"--it's wrong and will corrupt data.)
