[mythtv-users] Recording problems with PVR-350 and MythTV 0.24.3

Hello,

I recently decided to upgrade from my old MythTV box running 0.21 to a
new box running 0.24.3. I chose version 0.24.3 because I have a
PVR-350 and PVR-150, and I read in the release notes that support for
these cards was dropped in 0.25.

So far, I have consistently had problems with scheduled recordings on
this new MythTV box. Xorg, lirc, and MythTV seem to work well, and
everything seems to be configured correctly. I can watch live TV and
I can also watch programs recorded on my old box. However, when I
schedule programs to record, something weird happens. I get almost
exactly 15 minutes and 20 seconds of the first program (+/- a few
seconds) and then the box hangs. The last thing I see in the
mythbackend log is always something like this:

2012-09-24 00:11:29.181 TVRec(1): ASK_RECORDING 1 29 0 0
2012-09-24 00:12:02.386 TVRec(1): Changing from None to RecordingOnly
2012-09-24 00:12:02.413 TVRec(1): HW Tuner: 1->1
2012-09-24 00:12:02.487 AutoExpire: CalcParams(): Max required Free
Space: 2.0 GB w/freq: 15 min
2012-09-24 00:12:02.512 Started recording: "South Park":"Dead
Celebrities": channel 1022 on cardid 1, sourceid 1
2012-09-24 00:12:02.522 scheduler: Started recording: "South
Park":"Dead Celebrities": channel 1022 on cardid 1, sourceid 1
2012-09-24 00:12:02.532 Updating status for "South Park":"Dead
Celebrities" on cardid 1 (Tuning => Recording)
2012-09-24 00:12:02.619 TVRec(1): rec->GetPathname():
'/mnt/data/recorded/1022_20120924001200.mpg'
2012-09-24 00:12:39.711 AutoExpire: CalcParams(): Max required Free
Space: 2.0 GB w/freq: 15 min
2012-09-24 00:23:42.905 DevRdB(/dev/video0) Error: Poll giving up
2012-09-24 00:23:42.923 MPEGRec(/dev/video0) Error: Device error detected
2012-09-24 00:27:39.840 AutoExpire: CalcParams(): Max required Free
Space: 2.0 GB w/freq: 15 min

And then the box needs a hard reboot. After the box is rebooted, I
can see the recording under "Watch Recordings" and on that screen it
shows the full duration (the correct start and end times of the
program), but when I view the recording, it is actually ~15 minutes
long. Also, the recordings are usually a bit choppy compared to live
TV.

Here are the details for the new MythTV box:

Dell GX620
Hauppauge PVR-350 (/dev/video0)
Hauppauge PVR-150 (/dev/video1)
Debian Linux 6.0.5 32-bit
IVTV 1.4.1 (drivers included with stock Debian kernel)
MythTV 0.24.3 compiled from source

What's bothering me is that it *always* happens at almost the exact
same point during the recording. The capture cards worked fine in the
old box, so I don't think this is a hardware failure of the card.
Could it possibly be an issue of overheating? Or could it be a buffer
problem? I'm hoping it's not a thermal issue, because this PC has no
sensors in it (at least none which are recognized by lm-sensors) so I
can't monitor the internal or CPU temperatures.

Also, after compiling 0.24.3 on this new box, I copied the mythconverg
database over from my old HD and let mythtv-setup upgrade the schema.
Just for good measure, I did a "Delete all capture cards" in
mythtv-setup and then added each capture card, and that whole process
worked fine.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

    Thanks!
    Dave
