sigh..  I just found it.  Seems I'm too focused.  Forgot I had
switched user to root so I could search files that were getting thrown
out of the search due to permission restrictions and thought I was
going to the lowly user's home directory when I typed 'cd ~' and
wasn't paying any attention to the prompt that was telling me
otherwise.

Anyways, thanks Nick.  I knew as soon as I sent out a call for help
the solution would suddenly be revealed ;-).
