Probably not too much risk of corrupting the OS*, but I'd suggest 
it's not a very good idea preventing them doing their housekeeping. 
Also, if powered off, it prevents them getting OTA updates and stuff.

* The OS itself *should* be in read-only flash. However, it's far 
from implausible that they have some dynamic stuff that they are busy 
cleaning up before a graceful "shutdown" to standby mode.
PVRs may be a different matter - I know for a fact that at least 
several of them run from disk and yanking the power will always 
present a small risk of OS corruption.
