The question is really 'where was everyone else the last 30?'.  :-)  SSDs
didn't become "generally" flash until about 2008 or so.  So the term 
meant '5.25" disk box full of DRAM' a *lot* longer than it's meant what
everyone uses it for now.  

Not my fault you young whippersnappers weren't paying attention.  ;-)
